The 37-year-old Scott Smith, seems to have been motivated by the cruel shooting massacre that occurred at the hands of James Holmes a few weeks ago. Smith was arrested for attempting to bring a Glock 9mm handgun, ammunition clips, and three knives into a late night showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" in an Ohio movie theater.
TMZ has reported that according to authorities, the manager on duty at the theater became alerted to Mr. Smith because he was trying to bring a satchel into a 10pm showing on Saturday night, August 4th. The manager then wisely brought his suspicions to an off-duty cop who was working as a security enforcer at the time. The officer then proceeded to search Mr. Smith's bag given the fact that the past Colorado shooting gave him probable cause to do so, and upon searching Smith's satchel, the officer discovered the weapons and ammo.
The police were then called to the scene immediately, and Mr. Smith was arrested because he didn't have a permit to be carrying any concealed weapons. In Mr. Smith's defense, he did offer to put the gun, knives, and ammo back into his car, however the cops were having none of that nonsense and cuffed him. His house was later searched and according to reports from thedailybeast.com police found eight rifles, handguns, gas masks, and bulletproof vests. Police believe he might have spent some time in the military and that that is how he got his hands on these weapons. He is currently being held without bail in Westlake, Ohio.
One has to wonder, exactly what would've happened if Mr. Smith had managed to get inside of the theater with his guns, knives, and ammo? Thankfully, we'll never have to find out.
